Uses of the ultrasound
Ultrasound may be used at various points during pregnancy:
First trimester -Ultrasound conducted during the initial three months of pregnancy verifies the embryo's development within the womb, ensuring it is not in the fallopian tube. It also confirms the embryo count while determining both gestational age and the expected due date of the baby
Second trimester - An ultrasound conducted between the 18th and 20th weeks assesses the development of fetal structures, including the spine, limbs, brain, and internal organs. It also examines the size and placement of the placenta. Additionally, if desired by the parents, the baby's gender can be determined during this scan
Third trimester - An ultrasound conducted post the 30-week mark ensures the baby is progressing at a regular rate of growth. Additionally, it examines the position of the placenta to ensure it is not obstructing the cervix.
Foetal Sex Determination is a Punishable offence and is not practised here.
